XRP News: $4T Brazil Market Operator Starts Using XRP Ledger

A Brazilian market operator overseeing more than 22 trillion reais, or roughly $4 trillion, in registered assets has started using the XRP Ledger to mirror ownership records for investment funds managed by BTG Pactual. Under a new partnership between CSD BR and Ripple, selected BTG Pactual fund shares deposited with CSD BR will be tokenized and mirrored on XRPL using its Multi-Purpose Token standard. CSD BR’s existing infrastructure will remain the official source of record for registration, custody and settlement.

That distinction matters: the $4 trillion in assets overseen by CSD BR is not being moved onto XRPL. The blockchain is initially being used as an additional verification and audit layer for live financial records. XRP Ledger Moves Beyond Test Environments The project is notable because it is operating with live fund records, rather than simulated assets or a closed proof of concept.

Approved institutions will be able to compare the blockchain record with CSD BR’s official database in near real time, potentially reducing the reconciliation work normally required between banks, custodians and securities infrastructure providers. The setup also preserves institutional controls. CSD BR can restrict who holds or transfers the tokenized representations, freeze assets and reverse transactions when required by regulators or courts.

Participants remain subject to KYC and anti-money-laundering checks. That fits a broader expansion of tokenized assets on the XRP Ledger, which have increasingly become a larger part of XRPL’s institutional use case. Direct Issuance Could Come Next The more important development may be what happens after the mirroring phase.

CSD BR and Ripple plan to explore issuing and trading financial assets directly on XRPL once the current infrastructure has been tested under real operating conditions. Potential future assets include Brazilian real-estate receivables and agribusiness receivables, according to the companies. That would move the partnership from blockchain-assisted recordkeeping toward actual onchain capital-market infrastructure.

Ripple has already been building toward that model through its broader custody-to-tokenization infrastructure, while XRPL has also been used in institutional experiments involving tokenized Treasury products and cross-border settlement. Earlier this year, Ripple, Mastercard, Ondo and JPMorgan completed a tokenized Treasury redemption on XRPL using traditional banking rails for the cash leg.
