Ripple Just Announced What XRP Holders Have Been Waiting For

Ripple has announced a partnership that will bring RLUSD-powered settlement liquidity to licensed cross-border payment companies operating on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). The initiative will use short-term financing to help payment providers fund transactions while waiting for international transfers to settle, introducing another real-world financial use case for the network. Crypto enthusiast Bird reacted to Ripple’s announcement with excitement, describing the development as something the XRP community had been waiting for.
EVERYTHING WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR IS FINALLY HAPPENING! Ripple just announced it. Cross-border payments are happening on the XRP Ledger.
THIS IS HUGE — Bird (@Bird_XRPL) October 22, 2026 Ripple Partners With Arf to Support Cross-Border Payments Ripple announced that Arf would bring its settlement liquidity model to the XRP Ledger, using RLUSD to provide short-term working capital for licensed payment companies. The company explained that Arf would use RLUSD to help payment providers access the capital they need as cross-border transactions settle. This approach targets a longstanding challenge in international payments, where companies must maintain sufficient funds across multiple markets to process transactions efficiently.
Payment companies often need to pre-fund transfers before receiving the corresponding settlement funds. Traditional bank credit facilities can take months to establish and may require substantial collateral. Arf’s model aims to provide a financing option that better accommodates the short-term capital requirements of global payment operations.
How Arf’s Settlement Liquidity Model Works Arf operates in the payment finance, or PayFi, sector, which combines payment infrastructure with financial services such as liquidity provision, treasury management and receivables financing. According to Arf, the company has scaled to approximately $10 billion in annual global settlement volumes since launching in November 2022. Its model allows capital to support payment transactions, return as settlements complete and become available for subsequent transactions.
Bringing this activity to XRPL would establish a revolving source of settlement liquidity tied to actual payment flows. Rather than funding each transaction through a separate, disconnected pool of capital, payment companies could use short-duration financing that supports repeated transactions. Arf is a Swiss-regulated financial institution headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, and a member of VQF.
Its existing operations combine regulated financial services with blockchain-based infrastructure. What the Partnership Means for XRP and RLUSD The initiative assigns distinct roles to RLUSD and XRP within the payment process. RLUSD will serve as the asset used for the working-capital credit flows, including loan disbursements and repayments.
XRP will continue to support activity on the underlying ledger. Transactions on XRPL require fees paid in XRP, while accounts and certain ledger objects must maintain XRP reserves. Increased lending and settlement activity could therefore generate additional network usage, although the scale of any resulting demand for XRP will depend on adoption and transaction activity.
The partnership also gives RLUSD another practical application beyond trading and transfers by connecting the stablecoin to the financing needs of licensed payment companies. XRPL Lending Infrastructure Is the Next Step Arf will continue working with Ripple as a design partner while the specifications for XRPL’s Single Asset Vault and Lending Protocol progress toward activation. According to Arf, the company plans to transition the program to the network’s native lending infrastructure once the XLS-65 and XLS-66 amendments activate on mainnet.
For XRP holders, the announcement establishes a concrete connection between the ledger, stablecoin-based financing and international payment operations. The next milestone will be the activation of the lending infrastructure and the program’s transition to the native protocol.
